Australian-Top-Researcher-otolaryngology-Richard-Harvey-Rhinologist-nose-sinus

Prof Harvey and his team strive to provide the best in surgical and medical care for patients with nose and sinus disorders

“We strive to provide exemplary care with a coordinated approach to patients with difficult to manage disease, and tumours of the nose, sinus and skull base. Our goal is to ensure that the latest research and state-of-the art services are delivered in a patient focused environment”

Diseases of the nose, sinuses, allergy and skull base (the area in and around the brain) present some of the greatest challenges for treating physicians. Sydney Ear Nose & Throat Clinic was established to bring together the experience of several major centres around the world, which are dedicated to the treatment of uncommon, and difficult-to-manage conditions.
We have experience in treating problems from birth, right through to nose and sinus complaints that can affect us when we are in our eighth or ninth decade.

Extended medical evaluation and assessment

Our services include specialised diagnostic tools and medical assessment for:

  • Inflammatory conditions of the airway
  • Allergies
  • Non-allergic reactive nose (rhinitis)
  • Patulous Eustachian tube dysfunction
  • Conditions affecting the entire airway (lungs and nose)
  • Tumours of the nose and skull base
  • Fungal diseases of the nose and sinuses
  • Immunodeficiencies
  • Uncommon or rare diseases (including hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia)

Advanced minimally invasive surgery

Over the past decade, significant advancements have been made in both endoscopic (key hole) surgery techniques and equipment. Many very debilitating surgical approaches have been replaced by endoscopic or minimally invasive techniques. These avoid facial incisions and scars – even for the largest of tumors/lesions. Recovery time is quicker and there is less post-operative pain/discomfort. Additionally, other therapies, such as radiotherapy, can be started earlier after surgery.
Endoscopic sinus surgery for inflammatory conditions has also advanced. Refinement of techniques makes this procedure ‘day-only’ for the majority of patients. There is no heavy packing in the nose after surgery. Bleeding is significantly less and recovery is faster and more comfortable.

Academic excellence and continued research

We have an established academic record with publications in peer–reviewed journals and books, and are invited speakers to international conferences and hospitals. We are committed to furthering our understanding of diseases of nose, sinuses, and skull base, as well as allergy. Ongoing research is an important process and our team is happy to speak with those interested in participation. The development of novel topical medications for sinus disease, new surgical approaches that will reduce recovery time, and international collaborations are all part of our current program.
